The highlight of the trip was meeting legendary artist Paul Goodnight.

We have been captivated by his art for almost twenty years, since first seeing his art at the "Black Expo" in New Orleans. "Brazilian Heartprints," a serigraph, was the first piece of his that we saw, and ironically the first piece of his that we collected nearly fifteen years later.

Paul has a new Jazz series out, entitled, "No Strings Attached," which pays tribute to the rich heritage of American Jazz culture. "Guitar" is the print pictured to the right. Each print is a Limited Edition Giclee, measuring 17.5” by 22.5”, and sells for $350. Go to our website at http://www.g1fineart.com/ to view this extraordinary new series.

National Black Fine Art Show

Wendy and I just returned from a quick trip to visit the prestigious National Black Fine Art Show held in the Puck Building in Soho, NY from February 13-17. This was our first trip to the show that is billed as one of the top venues for collectors of fine African American art.

This was the 12th year for the show that features over 38 dealers and galleries presenting artwork from 19th Century Black artists Henry O. Tanner, Harlem Renaissance Artists Romare Bearden and Jacob Lawrence, current Master Elizabeth Catlett, current Emerging Artist Evita Tezeno and others.

Evita's artwork is gaining in popularity. Having done ten NBFAS shows, this was by far her best, selling out all of her displayed art over the five day show.

Collectors are responding quite favorably to her new work. Evita sold "Seen My Lady Home Last Night," (above) the initial piece to her new series "Negro Love Songs" by poet Paul Lawrence Dunbar and "Miss Mabel had a Yellow House," (r) inspiration to her new "Sharecropper's" series.

Evita's grandmother was the daughter of a sharecropper, and the stories that she heard served as inspiration to the series.

She's already working on new pieces for both series, so we will take a more in depth look at them in our next newsletter. For now, you can view images of the new collages here and at www.myspace.com/g1fineart.
